Mark Butler MP, Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, today announced that the Federal Government will continue to fund the National Carer Counselling Program (NCCP) and the Carer Information Support Service (CISS), with funding guaranteed from July 2012 until 30 June 2013.

The announcement was made at the Carer Cottage in Deakin, ACT, which provides day, home host and overnight respite services for carers of people with dementia.

The NCCP and CISS offer emotional and psychological support to carers across Australia, providing specialist advice and information, along with a pathway to counselling, support groups, education and training, advocacy and referrals.

Funding was also announced for the continuation of Carers Week, with over $1 million being provided over the next five years to allow Carers Australia to stage this important week.
