Information for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse parents and carers about the NDIS
The NDIS has developed documents for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people to access. Please click on the below link for information about the NDIS in languages other than English.
Two fact sheets by Amparo Advocacy, QLD are available for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people in many languages, to support an understanding of disability in Australia; and to provide an explanation as to what the NDIS is about.
Two fact sheets:
- Understanding disability in Australia
- Understanding what the National Disability Insurance Scheme is
Resources for culturally and linguistically diverse communities can also be located on the Positive Partnerships website. These resources include an animation of one family's journey on moving to Australia and having their son diagnosed with autism. There is also a range of resources that have been translated into six different languages, to assist with conversations and shared planning to support your child and your family.
You may also wish to consider using a CALD specific advocacy support service to assist you with your NDIS pre-planning activities and to perhaps request they attend the planning meeting with you.
